If you didn't know it yet, Shelby and I have adult children; after Christmas they both took off to do their thing. We spent New Year's Eve with Shelby's side of the family and then they left for home the next day. That left Shelby and me home alone on New Year's Day. We were trying to figure out dinner for the two of us and we came up with a couple of favorites: steak and crab.
The local grocery had a sale on snow crab and they will steam it in the store and we split a rib-eye. We like to sear them in an iron skillet. Love the crust that forms on the meat when it hits the heat (see Maillard reaction.) I also picked up a little mix from the Mediterranean salad bar: olives, 7-grain salad, feta, etc... All in all a great meal and it was kind of nice to cook a little something at a leisurely place and have a little wine.
