Cheap and Cheery today. Nice line-up.

This is what a 13 year old Twinkie looks like. I’ve had this in the Twinkie sarcophagus bestowed upon me by former co-workers. The wrap is airtight still but a sickly sweet smell permeates through the thin plastic. The Twinkie is crumbling with age and feels petrified. I do not believe it is edible.
Grape and Gourmet tasting 16 Nov 2012.
Been a busy week for us, so we were going to pick-up a chicken from Sam’s. This is what it looks like when the rotisserie is being unloaded. $4.88 for a whole, cooked bird—can’t go wrong.

Last night’s tasting line-up at Grape And Gourmet, Alex was our guide :). The Prisoner was great. The big bottle at the end is a special release magnum and only 60 were available in the state of Virginia. Grape and Gourmet received two of them and only had one left for sale last night. The wine: Laetitia Sparkling Brut Cuvee NV, Laetitia “Estate” Chardonnay, Laetitia “Estate” Pinot Noir, Laetitia Pinot Noir “Les Galets”, Orin Swift “The Prisoner”, and Orin Swift “Saldo” Zinfandel.
A delicious chicken taco with persimmon salsa, Shelby put this all together.
Since I’m watching my cholesterol I tried making an omelet with Egg Beaters and Morning Star sausage.

Late posts. We picked up some oysters last week. Raw with a homemade mignonette.
Fresh salmon at Misako.
Whole Foods in Virginia Beach had a tour today. Shelby signed us up for it the other week and it turned out to be a lot of fun. We got to go through the store and stopped at stations that provided samples. The dry aged meat store looked great. I had to use my phone for the first few shots but then they let me use my regular camera afterwards.
Some chuck I got on sale. Salted, rested, and grilled. I thinly sliced it before serving. I turned out great.
Shelby found a recipe in a magazine for Milk Braised Pork Loin Chops. It was delicious and the gravy was the best I’ve had (or made) in a while.
Grape and Gourmet 12 Oct 2012 tasting had a good line up. My favorite of the bunch was the 2010 Thorn-Clarke Shotfire Cab/Shiraz, Barossa blend. The Shiraz really stood out. Shelby’s favorite was the 2003 Valsacro, Dioro, Rioja, a Spanish Tempranillo grape. It was going for a steal at $19.99 a bottle compared it’s regular listed price of $46.99. Emily said she got super deal and the pricing reflected that.
Chicken Fricassee I made this past Sunday. The weather is perfect for this kind of food. Actually, anytime is a good time for this!
